The Peak of Ohio.com is reporting that Toby Smith will apparently be the new head coach at Lima Senior according to a story released Friday.
According to the website, Smith, the former Bellefontaine coach, signed contract on Thursday with the scool but the contract is still pending board approval. He will teach physical education.
It stated that earlier this month, Smith resigned his coaching position at Bellefontaine after seven seasons and during his tenure, the Chiefs went 46-27. BHS won four league titles in 2014 and from 2016 – 18.and qualified for the playoffs twice in 2014 and 2017. The Chiefs finished 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the CBC in ‘19. Previously, Smith was the head coach at West Liberty-Salem for 14 years where his record was 111-40, including four 10-0 seasons.
Dubenion remembered
Elbert Dubenion, a receiver who played key roles in the Buffalo Bills winning consecutive American Football League championships in the mid-1960s, has died. He was 86.
The Bills said Dubenion died Thursday, 55 years to the day of Buffalo winning its first AFL title with a 20-7 victory over the San Diego Chargers. Dubenion had been living in Ohio and battling Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s.
Born in Griffin, Georgia, Dubenion was nicknamed “Golden Wheels” for his speed. He played at Bluffton College in Ohio and was 27 when signed by the Bills before their inaugural season in 1960. He played his entire nine-year career in Buffalo and was enshrined on the team’s Wall of Fame in 1995.
Dubenion led the Bills in yards receiving five times, including 1964, when he had 42 catches for a career-best 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns in becoming quarterback Jack Kemp’s favorite target. Dubenon’s 27.1 yards per reception that season led the AFL and still stands as a team record, and his touchdown total is tied for second among the Bills for one season.
“Duby was our touchdown man,” former teammate and cornerback Booker Edgerson once told The Buffalo News. “They loved to throw him the bomb.”
Dubenion’s 5,294 career-yards receiving and 35 touchdowns receiving still rank fourth on the team list. He also scored three touchdowns rushing, and one on kickoff return.
He finished ranked seventh among AFL players in catches and yards receiving. Dubenion’s 93-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Daryle Lamonica in a 26-8 playoff loss to the Boston Patriots in 1963 is the longest in AFL postseason history.
Dubenion began a long career as a scout following his retirement, including two separate stints with the Bills. He also scouted for the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons.
Funeral arrangements aren’t available.
Saints have no immediate plans to sign Brown
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Saints coach Sean Payton says the club has no immediate plans to sign Antonio Brown after including him in a workout with six free-agent receivers Friday morning.
Payton says the Saints are mainly doing their due diligence “on all of those players” and looking at how available players can help the team as it prepares to enter the playoffs.
Brown has not played since the New England Patriots cut him Sept. 20 amid multiple sexual assault accusations which have spawned an ongoing league investigation of the receiver.
Payton says the team would still have to seek information from the NFL on whether it would allow Brown to play if New Orleans chose to sign him.
Brown is a four-time All-Pro but has now been released by three teams since the end of last season, when he was release by Pittsburgh after being a no-show for the club’s season finale. He also was cut earlier this year by Oakland.
