LIMA — General Dynamics Land Systems has been awarded a $26.2 million contract to produce the MK-46 Modification 2 Gun Weapon System.

The weapon system is used on Littoral Combat Ships and Zumwalt-class ships. The contract was awarded by the Naval Sea Systems Command.

The MK-46 is an all-weather, day and night, fully stabilized weapon system. Its lightweight, modular compact size makes it an ideal candidate for numerous anti-surface and anti-air defense applications.

General Dynamics has delivered 38 MK-46 systems to the Navy since 2005. It’s the main deck gun for the LPD-17 ships and it is the secondary gun battery for the LCS and Zumwalt.

The Lima plant is one of the facilities that will help produce the system that is expected to be completed by November 2016.
