Roundup: Lincolnview’s Ebel throws baseball no-hitter

MIDDLE POINT — Dane Ebel allowed no hits and a walk while striking out 11 as Lincolnview defeated Ada 10-0 in baseball Thursday.

He also had two hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Jared Kesler had two hits and an RBI, Landen Price had a hit and two RBI and Carson Fox had a double and two RBI.

COLDWATER — Reece Ellinger, Adam Hryko and Evan Haramert combined to allow no hits and five walks while striking out nine in five innings as Coldwater recorded a 12-0 baseball victory Thursday against New Knoxville.

Josh Kaup had two hits, including a double, and two RBI and Kayden Baumer had two hits and two RBI.

Gerken stepping down

FINDLAY — Liberty-Benton varsity coach Ben Gerken has announced he is retiring from coaching.

Gerken has coached the sport for 27 years, the last 23 of which were spent at Liberty-Benton. He served as the assistant coach for 15 years before moving into the role of head coach eight years ago.

He will continue to serve as high school principal.

Ohio Northern 9

BLUFFTON — The Bluffton University baseball team scored in all eight innings as the Beavers defeated the Polar Bears at Memorial Field. Bluffton improved to 9-11 on the season, while ONU slipped to 11-11. The 24 runs equaled the school record set against Finlandia in 2015.

Seth Altman, Grant Hovest and Jack Towell each finished with three hits for Bluffton. Towell and O’Reilly scored three runs apiece. Wilson drove in four runs, while Hovest added three RBI.

Coldwater graduate Jacob Wenning paced ONU with four hits and two RBI.

Ohio Northern 2

ADA — The Polar Bears fell to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, and the Cardinals improved to 11-3 (2-0 OAC).

Katie Curry won 7-6 (2), 7-5 at No. 4 singles and Jeorgia Templin and Flo Sanchez won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles for ONU.,

Krepps named

ONU assistant

ADA — Aaron Krepps returns to Ohio Northern for his second stint as an assistant football coach in 2022 and will coach the quarterbacks and serve as co-offensive coordinator in charge of the passing game.

He was an assistant coach at ONU in 2015 and 2016 before leaving to coach at nearby Bluffton.

He served as the head coach at Bluffton from 2018-21, helping the Beavers to a record of 13-25. He was also the offensive coordinator for BU in 2017.

Prior to his stints at ONU and Bluffton, he was an assistant coach at Alderson Broaddus (W.Va.) in 2014.

Krepps also served as head coach at his prep alma mater, Belle Vernon (Pa.) High School, from 2009-13 and also had collegiate assistant coaching positions at Eastern Michigan in 2007 and Adrian (Mich.) in 2006.

He was a four-year letterman as a receiver and kick returner at Washington & Jefferson (Pa.)
