VAN WERT — The first annual “Ohio Has Talent!” show was thrown together eight years ago to help raise funds to build the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.

Now, eight years later, the show has become a popular tradition.

“We had such a good response to the first one that we decided to keep having it,” said Donna Grimm, of Health Community Professionals, which puts on the event.

Sixteen local and regional people will perform in a variety of styles of music, dance and other entertainment. They range in age from 12 to 90 and will compete for $1,000, $500 and $250 prizes.

Grimm said the show benefits hospice patients who have no or insufficient health insurance.

Grimm said tryouts are limited to 50 and take place in November, and 16 finalists are selected for the final competition.

“It has really turned into a top-notch show,” Grimm said. “Many people who have competed have went on to perform at bigger places.”
