Sewing for a good cause

There will be a Pillowcase Dress Sew-a-thon starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 28 at St. Lawrence Church (Rhine), 16053 Botkins Road, Botkins. The event is sponsored by the Social Justice Commission of the Petersburg Parishes. Both seamstresses and those that do not sew are invited to the event. Those attending are asked to bring fabric remnants, new (or gently used) pillowcases made primarily of cotton, buttons, ribbon and other notions that can be used to trim the girls’ dresses and boys’ shorts that participants will be making. The clothing will be sent with Christian missionaries to give to children who are in need. Lunch will be provided. For details, call 419-738-4924 or 937-693-3163.

Tebow’s mother shares her story

Pam Tebow will be speaking at 7:30 p.m. March 18 at Niswonger Performing Arts Center, 10700 state Route 188 S. The event is part of Hope Pregnancy Services third annual benefit. Tebow, who was told by doctors to abort her son Tim Tebow, refused, thus giving her a platform to speak on pro-life issues. Tickets can be purchased at npacvw.org, or by calling 419-238-6722. The cost of tickets is $20 to $25.

Volunteer banquet planned

There will be a volunteer banquet at 7 p.m. Friday at in the fellowship hall at New Life Church International, 1180 W. High St. The banquet will be honoring those who volunteered time, money or items to the New Life Church international soup kitchen. Those on the invite list include members of New Life Christian International, Lima Community Church, County Line Church of the Brethren, Temple Christian School and The Kiwanis Club.

Magnificat breakfast scheduled

The Catholic women’s group Magnificat, Our Lady of Consolation Lima Chapter, will hold a breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon March 7 at Old Barn Out Back. Guest speaker is Sabina Brown, of Huron, who will share her story of finding God in her native India. Reservations are due March 4 at 419-339-5575.
