‘Robin Hood’ with a twist

LIMA — It is hard to be humble when you are an egocentric super hero.

However, the man in green tries his best.

Encore Theatre will stage “The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.” The Mary Lynn Dobson creation is a Monty Python-like retelling of the classic “Robin Hood.”

“It is the basic Robin Hood story,” said play director Karen Finn. “Robin Hood and Maid Marian meet and fall in love and then conspire against Prince John and the sheriff. However, it has a modern twist, with time travel, puns and corny jokes.”

The play will begin at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5 for children 10 and under and $10 for all other tickets. Tickets can be purchased at the box office Monday 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday-Friday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. and one hour prior to showtime. They can also be purchased by calling 419-223-8866 or on the website at amiltellers.org.

Finn said the cast has been working hard.

“They began rehearsing right after Christmas,” Finn said. “All of the performers are between the ages 8 to 18.”

Finn said the performance is great for the whole family.

“It is just a good, fun, silly show,” Finn said. “It is something people of all ages can sit and watch, laugh and enjoy.”
