Here is a lineup of some key area high school sporting events for the remainder of the week.
Girls basketball
Kenton (2-16, 1-6 Western Buckeye League) at Bath (17-1, 7-0 WBL)
When: 7:30 tonight
Bath is fresh off an impressive 62-43 victory over Division IV top-ranked Marion Local on Tuesday night on the road. Bath, which is ranked No. 5 in D-II, had three players score in double figures. Alyssa Manley (19), Maddie Dackin (18) and Cassie Best (12) led the way for the Wildkittens, ranked No. 5 in D-II, against the Flyers.
Bath’s last WBL game was an 83-22 shellacking of Shawnee last Thursday. The Wildkittens helped forced 29 turnovers. Dackin led Bath with 24 points. Manley scored 12, while Best scored 11. Lindsey Singhaus and Haylee Brenek each added 10 points off the bench.
Kenton was defeated by River Valley on Tuesday 54-49 in nonconference action.
Odds and ends: Bath has now won 40 consecutive regular-season WBL games. The Wildkittens are just two wins away from notching their fifth consecutive WBL title.
The Brass Tacks: Bath is playing at a very high level right now. On paper, this game looks like a total mismatch.
Boys basketball
Findlay (10-6, 7-2 Three Rivers Athletic Conference) at Lima Senior (13-3, 8-2 TRAC)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Findlay pulled away from Kenton in nonconference action this past Saturday, 64-43. Chase Miller (14), Grant Niswander (13) and Kyle Nunn (11) all scored in double figures for the Trojans.
Lima Senior is coming off a successful weekend. The Spartans defeated Fremont Ross in TRAC action on Friday, 76-54. On Saturday, Lima Senior made easy work of Van Wert, 79-46.
Against Fremont Ross, Xavier Simpson (19), Jaylin Thomas (12) and Rico Stafford (10) all scored in double figures for Lima Senior.
Against Van Wert, Thomas led the Spartans with 17 points.
Odds and ends: Back on Jan. 6, Lima Senior pulled away from Findlay for a 60-43 road victory. Rico Stafford led the Spartans with 18 points. After getting down 15-7 by the end of the first quarter, Lima Senior took control of the game and went on for the 17-point win.
The Brass Tacks: This matchup is always a competitive one.
Lima Senior (13-3) at Defiance (16-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday
Defiance, ranked No. 6 in Division II, is coming off a 40-30 victory over St. Marys this past Friday. After getting down 16-9 by halftime, Defiance scored the first 15 points of the second half, en route to the win over the Roughriders. Shay Smiddy led Defiance with 16 points.
Odds and ends: This is a tough weekend for the Spartans. After playing I-75 rival Findlay on Friday night in TRAC action, Lima Senior will then regroup and play a very disciplined Defiance squad Saturday.
The Brass Tacks: Findlay and Defiance will give Lima Senior a similar look. Both teams are patient at the offensive end and play good defense.
Perry (14-4, 6-0 Northwest Central Conference) at Upper Scioto Valley (14-3, 6-0 NWCC)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Perry is coming off a 63-43 loss to Miller City on Tuesday in nonconference action. Plummie Gardner (14) and Jakoby Lane-Harvey (12) led Perry in scoring.
USV is coming off a 66-49 loss to St. Marys this past Saturday. Lane Hurley led USV with 20 points, while teammate Cameron Parker scored 17.
Odds and ends: This game is for the NWCC title. Perry standout Jared Poling, who suffered an injury to his non-shooting hand in last weekend’s game with Temple Christian, played limited minutes against Miller City on Tuesday night. He’s expected to play against USV. USV is shooting for its second straight NWCC crown.
The Brass Tacks: With the importance of this game, along with the proximity of the two schools, this has all the makings of a fierce hardwood battle.
Ottawa-Glandorf (11-6, 4-2 Western Buckeye League) at Elida (7-8, 4-2 WBL)
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Ottawa-Glandorf went on the road this past Saturday and was upended by Napoleon 65-57. Brad Recker led O-G with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Jason Schnipke and Nick Weihrauch each added 12.
Friday night, the Titans defeated Wapakoneta 63-52. Noah Bramlage (17), Jordan Verhoff (12) and Zach Kuhlman (11) all scored in double figures for O-G.
In Elida’s 63-52 win over visiting Kenton this past Friday, Austin Allemeier led the Bulldogs with a career-high 30 points, on 11-of-16 shooting. Allemeier was 6-of-9 on 3-pointers. Josh Press added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Odds and ends: Elida has gone 7-3 since starting the season 0-5. Presently, Elida and O-G are in a three-way tie for third place in the WBL, along with St. Marys.
The Brass Tacks: This game is huge for both teams. Neither squad can afford another league loss.
Sectional swimming
When: The meet starts at 11 a.m. Saturday
Where: Lima YMCA
Teams that will compete Saturday include: BOYS: Ada, Bath, Elida, Kenton, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Senior, Marion Local, St. Marys, Minster, New Bremen, Shawnee, Upper Sandusky, Wapakoneta.
