St. Marys man caught on run

ST. MARYS — A man wanted for raping a minor in St. Marys was apprehended after less than a week on the run.

At about 8:15 p.m. Thursday in Gas City, Indiana, David H. Andrews Jr.’s vehicle slid off the road into a median on Interstate 69. Gas City is about an hour and a half drive due west of St. Marys.

Officers responded to the incident and noted the vehicle was abandoned. Officers ran the license plate and found Andrews had an outstanding warrant. They searched the area and found Andrews a short time later hiding behind a nearby gas station.

Andrews, 26, of St. Marys, is charged with one count of rape, a first-degree felony, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony.

St. Marys Police Chief Mark Ernst was unavailable for comment Thursday.

According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, Andrews is held without bond pending his extradition.
