LIMA — Henry Ford wasn’t about flashy cars, he preferred good, simple and economical vehicles. After producing more than 15 million Model Ts since 1908, in May of 1927, Ford closed his plants for months in order to retool his assembly lines for the production of his next legend: the Model A. Ford himself dedicated himself to the mechanical aspects and his son, Edsel, was more concerned about the body of the new car. The Model A would be known as the “Baby Lincoln.” Once the Model A was introduced, the competition felt the hurt, since many people were putting off their purchase of a new car in order to see what Ford was pulling out of his hat this time. When the new Ford was unveiled in December of 1927, riots occurred in a few cities. There were 25 million Americans driving to Ford showrooms in just the first week of production. Ford easily took first place in auto sales that year.

Myron Offenbacher, of Lima, brought his 1928 Ford Model A to The Lima News’ Real Wheels Cruise-In. He has owned it for 11 years. It was a gift from his cousin.
