AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — A man and woman were in serious condition following a two-vehicle crash at about noon Thursday at Elida and Baty roads.
Brandon Winton, 19, of Lima, was driving his car east on Elida Road and ran a red light, according to the Amercian Township Police Department. Winton hit a minivan being driven north on Baty Road and onto Diller Road. Michael L. Honse, 67, of Lima, and his wife, Jane Honse, 68, were struck.
Firefighters had to cut the Honses out of their minivan. They were taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center.
Winton did not appear to have significant injuries.
Winton has New York license plates, but he is a student at the University of Northwestern Ohio, the university said.
