LIMA — Lima-Allen County Neighborhoods in Partnership will highlight the variety of cultures in the Lima area with its ninth annual International Expo in the Lima Senior High School Commons.

“This is a fun way to learn about different cultures and nationalities around the world,” said event chairwoman Connie Hornung. “It is much more fun that reading a book.”

Hornung said displays will be available from Japan, India, Mexico, Scotland, Tunisia, Thailand, the Philippines, Morocco, Egypt and China, among others. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Children Around the World,” so many of the activities will be centered around children and what they do for fun in different cultures. Henna hand painting, names painted in Japanese calligraphy, origami and world jigsaw puzzles will be just a few of the activities for children to enjoy.

Hornung said that the displays feature items from people’s native countries, such as clothing, fabrics, jewelry and other cultural treasures. Ethnic foods will also be available for testing and purchase. A parade of nations will also be held during the event.

“I picture the event as a post card I once saw with different people around the world,” Hornung said. “It is an educational and enjoyable event where you can spend the afternoon traveling around the world without leaving Lima.”
