Elida High School dismisses after threat

ELIDA — Students at Elida High School have been sent home early “due to a suspicious note,” according to a text alert sent around 1 p.m. today.

Elida Superintendent Tony Cox said the note contained a threat of a shooting at one of the schools around 2 p.m. today. Earlier speculation on Twitter suggested a possible bomb threat.

The note was found by a high school student in one of the high school’s bathrooms and turned into a teacher at about 11 a.m. today. The teacher immediately alerted administration and officials.

Officials then called the district’s three student resource officers, just approved by the school board last week, to come to the school and investigate. They put students in lockdown for about an hour and 30 minutes.

Though resource officers believed there was no real threat, school administrations decided to proceed with caution. They opted to release students early, at about 12:45 p.m. Parents were then notified through text alert.

With no events scheduled tonight, the school has cancelled all other events or practices for the evening.

School is expected to resume on Thursday as usual.
