Nail salon to open on Elida Road

LIMA — Ivy Nail Spa, located on Harding Highway, is expanding and opening a second location on Elida Road.

Formerly the Lima Animal Hospital, the building at 2909 Elida Road will open as Ivy Nail Spa in mid-June, said owner Johnny Thi.

Thi and his wife, Yvonne Nguyen, bought the 3,500-square-foot building on March 2 for about $500,000, according to the Allen County Auditor’s website.

Thi and Nguyen want to open a “really nice and luxury store” in Lima, Thi said.

The spa will be “completely different” than the couple’s first spa, open for 11 years at 1515 Harding Highway in Lima. It will have a different “feel,’ he said.

“I want them to feel like, ‘wWow, it’s so nice, it’s so luxury,’” when they walk in the new one, Thi said.

The couple want the spa to seem like it’s in a big city, as people say there aren’t spas like that in Lima.

Bigger than Ivy Nail Spa on Harding Highway, the new location will have 21 pedicure chairs. The spa will have a separate area for pedicures and manicures, so people can “feel more relaxed” and have privacy, Thi said.

The spa will also offer massages and waxing.

The couple are doing “major construction” on the former animal hospital, changing it inside and outside, Thi said. They want to change the color and look of the building, and add glass windows to the front.

“We want to make the building look really nice,” he said.

The spa will employ about 10 people and more information about employment will be on a banner on the building, when the company is ready to hire, Thi said. Construction is planned to start next week, he said.

The Crate Escape, formerly Lima Animal Hospital, consolidated and moved to its location in Elida in mid-February.
