Putnam Electric employees receive awards

PAULDING — Three Paulding Putnam Electric employees were recognized for their heroism March 13.

Linemen Zak Kauser and Josh Smith noticed a contractor wasn’t feeling good as he was sitting down in the warehouse at Paulding Putnam Electric Co. The man appeared to be disoriented. The linemen called for help and staking technician Steve Kahle stepped in and helped the man get into a vehicle to be taken to the hospital. The contractor was eventually flown to a hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where several surgeries were performed. The man had suffered an aneurism in his heart and was expected to recover.

Otterbein Cridersville hosts bakeoff

CRIDERSVILLE — Otterbein Cridersville hosted an apple pie backoff March 13.

Anita Willow, of Arlington, won the contest.

The judges included Brett Stover, of The Meeting Place on Market, and Carrie Hamilton, with Apollo Career Center.

Local dance studio at Cavalier game

LIMA — Jeanne’s Dance Studio, located in Shawnee Township, performed at the Cleveland Cavalier’s game this Friday. There were 52 dancers performing. This was the second time the dance studio has performed with the Cavaliers.

In June, 12 dancers will be performing at Disney World. Six of these dancers will be participating in the light parade, an honor bestowed upon dancers by Disney World, as this is by invitation only.

Keith Wandell commencement speaker at OU

ATHENS — Ohio University announced that Keith Wandell will serve as one of the university’s 2015 undergraduate commencement speakers. Wandell will speak at the morning ceremony. He is CEO at Harley-Davidson. Graduation ceremonies will take place at 9:30 a.m. May 1 at the Convocation Center at Ohio University’s Athens campus.

A Lima native, Wandell graduated with a business administration degree from Ohio University in 1972. He spent much of his career with Johnson Controls, a global manufacturer of automotive, power and building solutions, where he rose to be president and CEO.

Wandell was named CEO of Harley-Davidson in May 2009. Under Wandell’s leadership, Harley-Davidson developed and implemented a strategy that transformed the 112-year-old company, restoring its financial strength and positioned it for continued growth.
