LIMA — The driver of the stolen truck that crashed Thursday was charged.

Dewayne L. Wilson-Smith, 24, of Lima, has been charged with failure to comply. An officer passing in a patrol car noticed the truck and tried to stop the 2013 Ford F-150 near Harrison and Dingledine avenues. Wilson-Smith sped away.

The truck belonged to Timothy Harsh, of Elida.

Officers began a chase but stopped because traffic was heavy and children were walking to school in the area. Wilson-Smith hit a fire hydrant and a tree before trying to run away.

Wilson-Smith has not been charged in relation to the theft of the vehicle.
