9-ball tourney expected to draw many top pool players

ELIDA — Steve Cook Memorial Billiards Tournament will be held beginning at noon today at East Road Billiards.

The open 9-ball event, named after area resident Steve Cook, who won multiple events around the country, is expected to draw many top players from up to five states and is open to the public.

Women’s track & field

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Ohio Northern’s Gabrielle Metzner and Emily Richards competed in the Division III NCAA Championships on Friday at the JDL Fast Track.

Metzner competed in the 60-meter hurdles where she finished 16th with a time of 9.16 seconds.

In the 800-meter run Richards also finished 16th with a time of 2:15.91, her second fastest time in her career.

The top eight in each event move on to the finals to be held Saturday afternoon.

Men’s tennis

UNOH 9, Walsh University 0

LIMA — The University of Northwestern Ohio (8-3) lost only one set all afternoon as the Racers dispatched with the Walsh University Cavaliers (7-9) to complete their run against foes from the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 3-2 record. UNOH No. 1 singles player Daniel Rueda won 7-6, 6-1 for his 100th career victory.

Baseball

Bluffton 3, Lourdes 2

SYLVANIA — Bluffton University improved to 5-4 on the season as Nate Simonds (2-1) allowed one run and two hits in six innings work to get the victory. The Beavers’ Luke Hickey, Mike Castro, Michael Alexander and Reid Maus each had two hits.
