Urgent care offers kidney specialists

LIMA — The Kidney and Hypertension Associates opened for patient care March 6 at 967 Bellefontaine Ave.

The center is located in St. Rita’s Eastside Urgent Care facility and serves as the new location for the clinic to provide more convenient access to nephrology specialists in the Lima area.

The Kidney & Hypertension Associates practice has specialists Vivek Agarwal, David Imler, Norman Moser, Anil Muddada and Jonah Ukiwe.

The medical group specializes in kidney disease and hypertension, diabetic renal disease, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, and transplant work-ups and referrals.

New location for heart care center opens

RUSSELLS POINT — Heart Specialists of St. Rita’s opened for patient care March 6 at 303 E. Main St.

The center includes Ebree Ugawanyi, who offers cardiac services and offers access for cardiovascular care in the Indian Lake area. Dr. Ugawanyi is board certified in both internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, and specializes in invasive cardiology. The center is also equipped with advanced technology, in addition to the network’s range of delivery care systems.

The center also includes services provided by specialists including Zoheir Abdelbaki, Bekele Ayele, Hemraj Makwana, Julius Kato, Ossama Abdulrahman.

The group of specialists offer cardiology services and procedures such as heart catheterization, stress testing, tilt table testing, Holter monitoring and echocardiogram readings.

St. Rita’s sponsors raffle

LIMA — St. Rita’s Volunteer Auxiliary group is hosting a $1,000 monthly raffle as a part of a fundraiser for a $900,000 pledge to St. Rita’s Heath Partners.

Tickets for the raffle are on sale and are $20 each.

Every month, a ticket awarding $1,000 will be drawn. The person who sold the ticket will also win $100. After winning, the ticket will go back into the drawing for yet another chance to win.

Tickets are eligible for 12 monthly drawings. They’re available in St. Rita’s Medical Center Volunteer/Auxiliary Resource in the lower level of the K tower, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Drawings will begin the 12th day of the month at noon in the High Street Cafe once all tickets are sold.

Practices receive recognition

LIMA — On March 3, St. Rita’s Professional Services announced two family medicine practices, St. Rita’s Family Medicine in Shawnee and St. Rita’s Family Medicine at UNOH, were awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance-Patient-Centered Medical Home Program.

Department encourages others to watch over elderly

The Ohio Department of Aging reminds people to keep an eye on elderly loved ones or neighbors. The department has provide a list of questions to ask:

• Are they staying warm? Is their heating system working properly and set at reasonable temperature? Are they using portable heaters safely?

• Do they need medical attention? Do they have symptoms of cold-related illness (e.g., shivering, exhaustion, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech or odd skin color)? Have they fallen?

• Do they have an adequate food and water supply and a safe way to prepare meals? Do they have non-perishable food that can be prepared without electricity?

• Can they get help if they need it? Do they have access to a phone that works, even if the power goes out? Do they know who they will contact if they need assistance?

Local hospital in list of top 100

FINDLAY — Blanchard Valley Hospital was named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics on March 2. As a leading provider of data-driven analytics and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare, this is the third time Blanchard Valley Hospital has been recognized with this honor. It’s previously received the recognition in 2005 and 2011.

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals study recognizes hospitals and leadership teams that provide the highest level of value for communities based on a national balanced scorecard. The 100 Top Hospitals balanced scorecard measures overall organizational performance by assessing factors including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. The study’s been conducted annually since 1993.

Truven Health researchers evaluated about 3,000 short-term, acute-care and non-federal hospitals. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.

Botkins health fair announced

BOTKINS — Grand Lake Health System is presenting a Spring Health Fair Saturday at Only Believe Ministries, 13815 Botkins Road.

The health fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and will include a variety of free health screenings including osteoporosis, blood pressure, foot, Dermascan, glucose and body composition.

The fair will also have information available about its Wound & Vein Care Centers, Grand Lake Sleep Center, New Day Pain Management, women’s imaging, Grand Lake Home Health & Hospice, Grand Lake OB/GYN, advance directives, organ donations, Shelby County Help Me Grow, chair mini-massages, reflexology and refreshments. Pre-registration is not required.

The fair will also feature Natasha Alexander from Grand Lake Neurological Center and Suri Vanan from Vanan ENT & Sinus Center.

A variety of blood tests will also be available. Costs will range from $10 to $40 depending on the test administered.
