Allen East students win Archie Griffin award

LIMA — One seventh- and one eighth-grade student received the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award at Allen East for outstanding sportsmanship. Students Sydney Treglia and Chase Caprella were awarded the sportsmanship award.

LIMA — The Mustang Award is presented to two students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership and sportsmanship. Logan Conrad, seventh grade, received the Mustang Award.

The OHSAA Award of Excellence is given to a student who has shown outstanding sportsmanship and integrity and is a positive role model. Mallory Austin, eighth grade, received both the Mustang Award and the OHSAA Award of Excellence.

Crestview Middle School recognizes students in awards ceremony

CRESTVIEW — Top members of their class were recognized May 21 during the Crestview Middle School awards ceremony. Numerous students were recognized for their high achievements in courses such as social studies, science, business and technology, and more.

Crestview Student Council holds Relay for Life

CRESTVIEW — A total of 327 students and staff members of Crestview Middle School and High School participated in the school’s fifth Relay for Life event.

Seventy-four teams, blended of students and staff members, competed to to see which team could walk the most laps around the track. The relay raised $1,665 for The American Cancer Society.

Marsh Foundation holds spring dance

VAN WERT — The children at the Marsh Foundation experienced their first formal at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Van Wert. The evening featured music, a disc jockey, snacks and a promenade.

Jefferson student receives scholarship

DELPHOS — Jefferson High School student Karen Cline was awarded a $1,500 scholarship from America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, a new program sponsored by the Monsanto Fund.

The organization encourages youth to remain in agriculture and provides scholarships to support their education. Grow Ag Leaders scholarships, administered by the National FFA Organization, are available to high school seniors and college students pursuing degrees in ag-related fields.

Marsh Foundation holds spring graduation

VAN WERT — The Marsh Foundation school held its annual spring celebration May 22.

A total of 10 students were honored for receiving their high school diplomas and more than 35 students were honored for their accomplishments throughout the school year.

Fort Jennings student Awarded Medical Mutual Scholarship

FORT JENNINGS — Senior Alyssa Wiedeman of Fort Jennings High School has been awarded the 2015 Medical Mutual of Ohio Scholarship. She will receive $500 to use for college expenses.

Area students receive college scholarships

LIMA — Noah Beach, an Ada High School senior, was awarded the dean’s scholarship through Defiance College. He is involved with the National Honor Society, 4-H, Our Lady of Lourdes youth group, football, various clubs and wrestling.

Tanner Stippich, an Allen East student, was also awarded the Dean’s Scholarship through the college. He is involved with the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and baseball.

Ohio Connections Academy holds graduation

COLUMBUS — Seniors who completed their high school education attended their graduation ceremony in Columbus on Sunday.

The Ohio Connections Academy is an online curriculum program for high school students. Graduating from Allen County are: Devon Bilimek, Katherine Heffner and Peyton Lauck and Christina Ingleston and Gina Lause from Putnam County.

Enriching the learning environment

LIMA — The Apollo Joint Vocational School will host a training to help participants develop a rich environment for children.

The event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 25 at the school. Discussion will include Dr. Howard Gardner’s Eight Intelligences Theory, with examples of how to develop the various intelligences in children.

The event is sponsored by the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities.

Auxiliary awards local students with scholarships

Students Margaret Saine and Whitney Smart will receive scholarships Thursday from the Lima Memorial Auxiliary.

Saine will attend Ohio University to pursue a degree in psychology and Smart will attend Ashland University to pursue a degree in nursing.
