11 men faces charges in Cleveland involving ATM theft ring

CLEVELAND (AP) — Prosecutors in Cleveland have indicted 11 men for racketeering and other charges for their alleged involvement in an ATM theft ring that authorities say netted tens of thousands of dollars.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday lists 10 ATM thefts between February 2011 and earlier this month. Nine of the machines were stolen this year from convenience and drug stores in four northeast Ohio counties.

All 11 suspects are from Cleveland.

The indictment says the group typically stole cargo vans, drove to targeted locations late at night and used the vans to smash through storefronts and loosen ATMs from their moorings. Ring members would drive off with the machines and use power tools and cutting torches to access the cash.

Employees and customers were at some of the stores during the thefts.
