Akron man charged with attempted murder in police crash

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (AP) — Police say an Akron man has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly rammed his vehicle into a police cruiser and injured the officer inside during a chase.

Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) Falls police say 46-year-old Donald Watson Jr. also faces felonious assault and eluding charges related to the July 23 crash.

Watson was slated to be arraigned Monday in Stow Municipal Court. Court records indicated an attorney was being appointed.

Police say Watson had called police and started "going off" about officers in a 30-second expletive-laced rant. He then allegedly crashed into multiple vehicles in the department's parking lot before the chase.

The officer suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Police say Watson also told them he set his home on fire. Firefighters found a blaze that caused major damage.
