JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect in the stabbing of a medical professional in western Tennessee who was shot by a police officer has died.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine said in a statement to news media that 45-year-old Don Fitzgerald White died Thursday after being taken to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
DeVine said White was being treated at Pathways Behavioral Health Sciences building in Jackson when he stabbed an employee with a knife. Two city officers responded Thursday afternoon and the situation escalated resulting in at least one of the officers firing a weapon.
Authorities didn't release the names or races of the officers involved.
Police said the injured medical professional was taken to a Memphis hospital for treatment. Her name wasn't released and an updated condition wasn't available.
