Official: Georgia officer shoots suspect after being stabbed

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in southwest Georgia say a police officer and another person were sent to a hospital after an officer-involved shooting.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton said Wednesday that preliminary information indicates the Albany officer shot an assailant after being stabbed.

The Albany Police Department said in a brief statement on its Facebook page the shooting incident happened just after 5 a.m. Wednesday and the officer and a second person were transported to a hospital. It was not immediately known how badly either person was injured.

A spokesman for Albany police did not immediately answer the phone or respond to an email message Wednesday morning. Albany is located about 180 miles south of Atlanta.
