NORMAN, Okla. — The talent on the field when Ohio State played Oklahoma on Saturday night attracted scouts from nine NFL teams.
There were seats listed on the press box seating chart for the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears, the Baltimore Colts, the Los Angeles Rams, the New York Giants, the Oakland Raiders, the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ohio connection: Oklahoma redshirt freshman offensive lineman Alex Dalton is a graduate of Troy High School and is one of three Ohio players on the Sooners roster.
Dalton started Oklahoma’s season opener at right guard after playing in seven games last season. He came back to claim a starting spot after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in the Orange Bowl against Clemson. He did not start Saturday night.
The other Ohioans at Oklahoma are linebacker Emmanuel Beal, of Reynoldsburg, and offensive lineman Sam Grant of Lakewood St. Edward.
Tough to beat at home: Going into Saturday night’s game, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops had a 96-8 record in home games as the Sooners coach.
Controversial Mixon: Oklahoma sophomore running back Joe Mixon remains a controversial figure two years after an incident which occurred before he ever played for the Sooners.
In the summer of 2014 before his freshman season, Mixon allegedly punched a female Oklahoma student in the face at a Norman, Okla. restaurant, breaking her jaw and several other bones in her face.
He accepted a deal in which he did community service and went to counseling without admitting guilt. Stoops suspended him for the 2014 season but reinstated him last year, when Mixon ran for 753 yards.
The controversy around whether Stoops should have kept Mixon on the roster heated up again this summer when the victim, Amelia Molitor, talked publicly about the incident for the first time and filed a civil lawsuit for damages against Mixon in his home state of California. Mixon’s attorneys are attempting to have the suit moved to an Oklahoma court.
