Delay to Ohio’s early voting felt by candidates

17 hours ago | | | Email

COLUMBUS (AP) — A delay in Ohio’s early voting schedule appears to be felt most by candidates with political futures at stake and their constituents eager to cast their ballots as soon as possible.Democratic gubernatorial contender Ed FitzGerald and his running mate planned to vote early Tuesday and encourage others to do the same. But his campaign canceled the plans after an order from a divided U.S. Supreme Court put off the start of early voting in the swing state by a week.In their 5-4 vote, the justices on Monday granted a request from Ohio officials to delay a judge’s ruling that had lengthened the state’s early voting schedule and had moved early voting to Tuesday for the November election.

John Grindrod: The NFL and the worst month ever

Hey, did you hear the one about the guy who wanted to watch a little truTV and after about an hour of viewing found out he was watching “SportsCenter” on ESPN? Well, it certainly was pretty easy to confuse the two networks last month during, without question, the worst 30 days in the history of a league that dates to 1920 — when 10 teams spread across four states decided to engage in man’s inhumanity to man, not, by the way, man’s inhumanity to women or 4-year-ol...

Christine Flowers: When does discipline become child abuse?

I did not have a Dickensian childhood. I had more than enough to eat, unlike orphaned Oliver Twist. I had the love and attention that was denied to poor little David Copperfield. I was not forced to scavenge in graveyards, like Pip from “Great Expectations.” All in all, it was much more “Brady Bunch” than “Bleak House.”But there were moments when either of the parental units — usually dad — would explain to my butt those things that m...
