DAYTON — Sophomore Christina Corbean and freshman Brittany Toney came back from a 7-0 deficit to win at No. 1 doubles, leading the Ohio Northern women’s tennis team to a 9-0 sweep of Wittenberg on Wednesday at Dayton Center Courts.

The Polar Bears improved to 8-2 on the season, while the Tigers dropped to 6-4.

Corbean and Toney won their court 9-8, capturing the tiebreaker 7-1.

Ohio Northern will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday when it plays host to Mount Union.

win in tennis

DAYTON — The Ohio Northern men’s tennis team topped Wittenberg 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Dayton Center Courts.

The Polar Bears are now 6-2 on the season, while Wittenberg drops to 6-3.

With the match tied at 4-4, sophomore John Mostowy was awarded a point penalty that clinched the match for ONU, giving him a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Mostowy teamed with senior Josh Saunders for an 8-1 victory and Northern’s lone doubles win of the day.

Ohio Northern will return to action Saturday, when it travels to face off against OAC rival Mount Union at 1 pm.

ADA — Junior Dan Belliveau blasted his third home run of the season, to lead the Ohio Northern to a 5-4 win over Defiance on Wednesday afternoon at Wander Field.

The Polar Bears have now won seven in a row and push their record to 11-3, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-8.

Junior Jack LaMarca paced the Polar Bears, going 3-for-4 in the game.

Ohio Northern will return to action at 6 p.m. today when it travels to take on Wittenberg.

CLERMONT, Fla. — The University of Northwestern Ohio defeated Carleton College 11-2 and 9-1 to improve to 10-6 on season. The Racers are scheduled to make their home debut at 1 p.m. Saturday against Aquinas College.
