LIMA — It has become synonymous with the holidays in the Lima area, and for the 19th year, Ohio Northern University will be performing its Holiday Spectacular today, Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Memorial Civic Center.
“Personally, I think it’s one of the grandest holiday traditions in the area,” Kirsten Osbun-Manley, co-director of the musical theatre program at Ohio Northern University, said. “It’s a rare gem of wholesome family fun. It’s a wonderful evening of energetic holiday entertainment. It lifts the spirit and spreads warmth, joy and good will.”
Far from just a typical holiday concert, this event capsulates the holiday spirit in grand fashion.
“It’s a cast of 33 singers and dancers, with 15 children,” Osbun-Manley said. “They celebrate the holiday season with a fully staged musical revue, full of familiar, traditional Christmas music. We have ballerinas, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus and the ever-popular toy soldiers. We have two elves involved, Pixel and Trixel. There is an assortment of characters, beautiful music, high-energy choreography, beautiful costumes and great talent.”
This performance would not be possible, according to Osbun-Manley, without the generous support of Kewpee Hamburgers.
“I want to publicly thank the Shutt family for bringing this fabulous show to Lima,” she said. “Without them and Kewpee, this would not be possible.”
The 2013 Holiday Spectacular promises to be a memorable occasion for both the young and the young at heart.
“What I like to tell people is that if you haven’t seen it, go, and if you have seen it before, go again,” Osbun-Manley said.
