WAPAKONETA — The First National Bank of New Bremen was damaged after a fire Wednesday night.
At 8:16 p.m., the Wapakoneta Fire Department was notified of the fire at the bank, located at 406 Hamilton Road. Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from the building. After forcing their way through the front door, firefighters discovered the fire started in a workroom just off the teller area and were able to contain the fire to that area.
After the fire was extinguished, investigators found an electric typewriter and credit card machine on a desk in the room. However, the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and no estimate of damages was listed on the fire department’s report.
No bank employees were injured in the fire, as the last employee to leave the building left three hours earlier. No firefighters were injured while battling the fire, which remains under investigation.
Buckland Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
