METAMORA - Runners will light up the night Saturday to benefit Fulton County Relay for Life. A Neon Night Glow Run will be held at Evergreen High School beginning at 9 p.m.
The Evergreen High School National Honor Society is organizing the run. The current president is Noah Pennington.
“Kathie Brock is also leading the parent volunteers and helping run the race,” said Emily Meents, Evergreen High School National Honor Society advisor. “She is the mother of Bailie Brock, one of our current NHS members, and she has helped with the Evergreen Trot for a Track in the past so she has some experience organizing races.”
The idea to hold this particular type of race came from another one of the National Honor Society members at the school.
“One of our members Taylor Monahan came up with the idea,” said Meents. “She had seen it on a TV show and thought it would be fun for our school to do.”
Runners ages 5 and older can participate in a non-timed fun run on the Evergreen School campus. Those who are not runners but still want to participate can do a music-filled one-mile walk.
Participants are invited to come early to attend a pre-party, participate in neon face painting and participate in a Glow Zumba warmup.
Following the run and walk, awards will be given out in categories of top “Glowman” and “Glow Woman,” the top three finishers in the two-mile race, and best “Glowtastic” stroller.
Meents said the event would not have been possible without a lot of help. “We would like to thank all of the community members who have helped by donating items and for participating in the race,” she said.
The cost to register is $12 and includes one glow necklace and one glow bracelet. Registration will open at 7:30 p.m. the night of the race in the Evergreen High School cafeteria.
The proceeds go to the Fulton County Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an annual event held at locations around the world that raises money for cancer prevention, research and related efforts.
This year’s Relay for Life of Fulton County will be held on June 6-7 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds on State Route 108 north of Wauseon.
