Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh glitter at Golden Globes
The Golden Globes, which took place last Tuesday, are a joke, but the fashion and the often-fabulous speeches are real — and what a treat it was to see this legendary pair sparkling like the stars they are. Angela Bassett, who won the supporting actress award for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” glittered in this elegantly sequined Pamella Roland gown. Michelle Yeoh, winning best actress in a musical or comedy film for “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” wore midnight-blue strapless Armani Privé. Both gave acceptance speeches as gorgeous as their dresses; can’t wait to see what they bring to the Oscars.
Ex-etiquette: If you can’t talk honestly with ex, seek co-parenting counseling
Q. During the holidays my ex suggested we celebrate together (we have three children) for the sake of “family unity.” We broke up three years ago and have worked through a lot of drama, but for some reason she has decided she wants to try again. This seems so strange to me. I do not want to reconcile or spend the holidays together. Because I said no, she then told our kids that I was the reason we were no longer a family. What’s good ex-etiquette?
Answer Angel: Bait-and-switch hairstylists
Dear Answer Angel Ellen: Is there any recourse in this situation I ran into recently? I made a beauty salon appointment with my regular stylist, and they even confirmed that appointment, reminding me if I don’t show up, I’d still be charged 100% of the scheduled service price. Then, when I show up, they tell me my stylist no longer works there. They assign someone else to take care of me — someone with whom I have not had a consultation, who is not experienced with my hair type. These “pink-collar” workers often are spoken of only using their first names, so it’s impossible to locate the new salon when they jump ship. I understand the business owner wants to protect herself from having stylists work for a year and then disappear with all the good clients but this seems like bait and switch!

What are eye floaters?
Spots, flashes of light or darkness on any side of your vision could be a sign of eye floaters. Most often noticeable when looking at a plain, bright background, such as a blue sky or a white wall, eye floaters are a symptom of age, according to Dr. Amir Khan, a Mayo Clinic ophthalmologist. And they can lead to a sight-threatening condition that requires immediate attention.
