LIMA — With Memorial Day marking the unofficial start of summer, a variety of events have been scheduled throughout the region to celebrate. Some of the area’s Memorial Day events include:


Memorial Day Parade

2 p.m. Monday, Alger School


The theme for this year’s parade is “Celebrating the Past.” Participants are asked to line up at 1 p.m. at the school.


Memorial Day Parade

9:30 a.m. Monday, downtown


The parade forms at 9:15 am in front of Bluffton Town Hall. The parade starts at 9:30 am and proceeds to Maple Grove Cemetery. A Memorial Day ceremony is held there at 10 a.m. hosted by Bluffton American Legion Post 384.


Community Garage Sale

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, downtown

The community holds an annual garage sale every Memorial Day. A wide selection of items from a variety of community members will be available.


Memorial Day Parade

9:30 a.m. Monday, downtown


For more than half a century, Lafayette has honored its veterans during the annual parade featuring Grand Marshals, keynote speaker, the Lima Beane Chorus, Allen East Marching Brass band, and many entries in the parade. This year an Ohio Historical Marker will be unveiled.


Nathan B. Carse Purple Heart 5K Walk/Run

9 a.m. Sunday, Faurot Park

$20 plus $2.50 sign in fee

The mission of the Nation B. Carse Chapter 1612 Military Order of the Purple Heart is to foster goodwill, camaraderie, patriotism, and provide service and support to our local combat wounded warriors, their families, and the community. All proceeds from participants and donations will benefit local veterans.


Memorial Day Ceremony

Noon Monday, Veterans Memorial Park

Representatives from various organizations will be on hand, including Freedom Colors, AMVETS Post 333 and American Legion Post 330. The Wapakoneta VFW will present the firing squad for a 21-gun salute.


Memorial Day Parade

9 a.m. Monday, American Legion Post 395

Lt. Col. David Kretz of the U.S. Air Force will be the guest speaker. All active military personnel are invited to march in the parade, as well. Participants need to be at the American Legion Hall by 8:45 a.m. to line up. The parade will run to Willow Branch Cemetery.
