Reason, inclusiveness and compromise seem to be forgotten ideals for some members of our community. This includes not only the debate over the naming of the “Lima stadium” but also the town mural.
As the community tries to foster pride, others seem to be more concerned with a particular interest rather than the total picture. This fosters little but division and resentment. Is this what the city needs?
The legal problem concerning the mural seems to be a rigid barrier. Yet, what about the letter of the law? Is it not for the safety and good of the community?
I have trouble seeing the harm in a mural. It incorporates the various ethnic groups that have contributed to the city. The time line incorporates decades of activity within this community; ranging from the arts, society justice and the restaurateur.
People stop to take photos of this art contribution. Others talk with their children and grandchildren about the mural. Is this not what Lima and Allen county is about, family and community?
