I am writing you as the American Cancer Society staff partner for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Lima.
I would like to express my gratitude for the success of the October 19 event. Due to the efforts of a great planning committee, amazing team leaders, inspirational survivors, and dedicated sponsors, we were able to raise more than $50,000 to finish the fight against breast cancer.
Despite a morning of rain, a sea of pink and umbrellas surged through the University of Northwestern Ohio’s campus. The event saw record attendance of 1,100 participants by devoted teams, survivors, and caregivers. The University of Northwestern Ohio Softball team led the Finish the Fight dance to celebrate the goal of ending breast cancer.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society’s premier event devoted to solely raising funds to end breast cancer. In 2013, Lima Memorial Health System received a grant for $25,000 to deliver mammograms to the underserved in the Lima area. Other money raised also contributes to the Look Good Feel Better program, Reach to Recovery program, and Unique Wig Boutique. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event in Lima reaches beyond Allen county and encompasses Hardin, Hancock, Putnam, Van Wert, Auglaize, and Mercer counties.
The 2014 planning committee is already gearing up to plan another successful event hoping to raise more than $60,000. Teams can begin to sign up and start fundraising for the 2014 year at www.makingstrideswalk.org/lima.
Again, I would like to thank the planning committee for their dedication, ideas, and hard work to put on such a great event. Thank you to our survivors and caregivers for giving us the inspiration to finish the fight and our team leaders for tirelessly fundraising to impact our cause. And a special thank-you to our sponsors, First Federal Bank, St. Rita’s Medical Center, University of Northwestern Ohio, Your Local Hometown Stations, Clear Channel, Tom Ahl,
