The Wauseon Tree Commission was recognized as a Tree City USA for the 21st time. The Northwest Ohio awards was co-hosted by the City of Kenton, the Village of Mt. Victory and their commissions.

The awards were presented by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry. The Tree City USA title was bestowed upon Wauseon for its ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the quality of life through a comprehensive street tree management program. The Urban Forester recommends a community to the Arbor Day Foundation for this standing.

In order to achieve the title and honors, the community must meet or exceed the following standards:

The community having an active Tree Ordinance; an active Tree Commission; a comprehensive urban forestry program supported by a minimum of two dollars per capita and an annual Arbor Day proclamation and public observance.

The state of Ohio currently claims the most Tree City USA (244) of any other state in the country. This marks the 33rd year as Ohio being a top Tree City. In Northwest Ohio alone, there are 55 Tree City USA communities and Ohio Northern has earned the distinction of being a Tree Campus USA.
