On Sunday, Aug. 24, Rev. Julie L. Parsell was installed as Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, 398 S. Shoop Ave. in Wauseon. Pastor Parsell is a minister in Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). She has been ordained for 16 years.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business, majoring in marketing and advertising from Ferris State University in Michigan and completed her Masters of Divinity at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio in 1998.
Prior to ordination, she worked in marketing and advertising, mostly in the field of broadcasting, and was also a church choir director. Pastor Parsell most recently served as an Intentional Interim Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Deshler, Ohio for nearly two years.
She has also served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsdale, Mich. for 14 years prior to that. In Hillsdale, Pastor Parsell led the congregation in starting a large food pantry ministry, called King’s Kupboard as well as a shelter for homeless women called Samaritan Place; she also helped the local ministerial association start an annual project called Loaves and Fishes in which area churches provide items like school supplies, haircuts and food to families in need prior to the start of school.
Pastor Parsell was installed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wauseon during worship on Aug. 24 by the Rev. Marc Miller, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwestern Ohio Synod of the ELCA with assistance from Rev. Jen Herrmann who has been a pastor at Trinity for the past six years.
The congregation, as well as representatives from both of Parsell’s prior churches, participated in the installation service. The Trinity Senior Choir performed the song, “Holy and Mighty,” which had an African feel, a fitting choice since Pastor Parsell has been to Africa three times leading mission trips and currently serves on the Global Mission Board of the Northwestern Ohio Synod. She was also recently elected to serve on the Northwestern Ohio Synod Council.
At the celebration potluck that followed the service, Pastor Parsell expressed her joy in being called to serve at Trinity: “The Lord’s hand is at work in this. My experience as a pastor and the gifts of the people here at Trinity are a wonderful match. It will be exciting to see how we can seek to serve God together as this journey unfolds!”
Trinity Lutheran Church has many vibrant ministries including the TLC Child Center which offers a full range of daycare, preschool and after school care for children; as well as an array of helping ministries such as the Caring Cupboard food pantry which takes referrals through F. I. S. H., the Clothes Closet which periodically offers free clothing for those in need, an number of active youth groups and many music groups. Pastor Parsell has plans to represent TLC by becoming involved in the community as well.
Trinity Lutheran Church offers worship on Sundays at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., as well as Saturdays at 5 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, please call the church office at (419) 335-5651.
