Altstaetter earns insurance honor

Mark Altstaetter, a life specialist at Webb Insurance Agency, Inc., has qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table. The Million Dollar Round Table is an international, independent association of more than 35,000 members or less than 1 percent of the world’s most successful life insurance and employee benefit professionals from nearly 500 companies in 76 nations.

Altstaetter has been with Webb Insurance since 1999.

St. Rita’s nurses recognized

Two nurses at St. Rita’s Medical Center have received the DAISY award for extraordinary nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Mary Fischer, nurse on floor 3A, and Janet Warneke, nurse on floor 2A, were both recognized by patients as going above and beyond.

UNOH admissions representative in hall of fame

Bob Alexander, University of Northwestern Ohio College of Applied Technologies Admissions Representative for the East Coast, was inducted into the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame on Saturday.

Selections for induction were based on contributions made to racing in Maine. Alexander is now part of the Class of 2014. The Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame was founded in 2004 and presently has 72 members.

Alexander was a driver and race car fabricator and won more than 100 races during his 22-year career.

He has been employed by the University of Northwestern Ohio for seven years traveling the east coast to meet with high school classes and students interested in attending UNOH.

Contractor receives high performance honor

Alexander & Bebout, Inc., a general contractor in Van Wert, has been named high performance builder by Butler Manufacturing. Butler Manufacturing provides design-build construction solutions and innovative building technology to the nonresidential market. This designation is awarded Butler Builder dealers that meet or exceed annual territory sales goals and demonstrate superior marketing skills in selling Butler buildings.

Alexander & Bebout, Inc. has been an authorized Butler Builder for 44 years.

Transitional Care Center ranks in top 25

The Transitional Care Center at Lima Memorial received high marks in a patient satisfaction survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging. Lima Memorial’s Transitional Care Center received a 96.88 percent, placing them in the top 25 nursing homes in the state of Ohio.


Heitmeyer earns certification

Bernice Heitmeyer, executive director at Burton’s Ridge, in Lima, has completed the new Certified Executive for Assisted Living (CEAL) certification program offered through the Ohio Centers for Assisted Living, and has passed the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrators Examination to earn this designation.

The course is a combination of interactive classroom training, guided self-study and hands-on clinical learning. Following the four day training, candidates must complete the exam to be awarded the designation.

Heitmeyer has worked at Burton’s Ridge for the past six years. Prior to Burton’s Ridge, she worked for HCF Management, Burton Ridge’s parent company, and has been in the healthcare field for more than 25 years.

Burton’s Ridge is a 47-unit assisted living community offering an alternative to traditional nursing care, while promoting independence and quality of life.

Decker re-certified as emergency manager

Allen County EMA director, Russ Decker, has earned his re-certification of his Certified Emergency Manager credential. This re-certification credential will last through the year 2019. He originally received the certification in 2003.

The Certified Emergency Manager credential is issued to practicing emergency managers that maintain a required level of continuing education and professional contributions. Decker is among an estimated 1,500 Certified Emergency Managers worldwide and one of only 16 in the state of Ohio.

He has served as Allen County EMA director since 1998 and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northwestern Ohio, a master’s degree from Tiffin University and is expected to graduate with his doctorate in public safety administration later this spring.

Ohio Hearing Professionals participates in trial program

Ohio Hearing Professionals have been selected and certified to participate in the Flex:trial program. This is an initiative launched by hearing aid manufacturer Unitron.

Flex:trial gives consumers the opportunity to try new hearing aids in their everyday life without any upfront cost or commitment. At the end of the trial period, participants may choose to purchase hearing aids or they may return the Flex:trial hearing aids without any cost or obligation.

Lima Dental Associates adds to staff

Dr. Alfred “Duke” Heller, has joined Lima Dental Associates. Heller is founder of the Midwest Implant Institute, and is accepting new dental implant patients. He has placed more than 20,000 implants and lectured on topics of implant dentistry for more than 30 years.

Heller is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and earned his masters of science degree from The Ohio State University. He is an honored fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and served on the admissions and credentials board of this organization for seven years. He is board certified in oral implantology by the American Board of Oral Implantology. Heller has served as president of the American Board of Oral Implantology, the Ohio Dental Association and the Columbus Dental Society. Heller founded Transforming Dentistry, an organization that helps the dental community with professional related stress. He is also on the staff of Grady Memorial Hospital.

Lima Dental Associates has offices in Lima, New Bremen and Spencerville.

Crime Victim Services announce elder victim ministry director

Tim Thurston is the elder victim ministry director at Crime Victim Services. He leads a coalition and trained volunteers responding to elder abuse, violence, scams and exploitation.

Thurston holds a master’s degree in ministry.

Mooney joins Swartz Contracting

Denise Mooney has joined Swartz Contracting and Emergency Services as assistant to the vice president of sales and marketing.

She brings more than 15 years of experience in business administration, training, management and marketing services for both government agencies and private industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Franklin University and a master’s degree in organizational management from Ashford University.


LCC grad named principal of firm

Ron Fender, a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School, has been named a principal at the firm of Cooke Douglass Farr Lemons Architects & Engineers, in Jackson, Miss. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fender, of Lima.

Fender earned his bachelor of science degree from The Ohio State University. He is a LEED accredited professional, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and is an electrical engineer and project manager at the firm.
