LIMA — Three individuals and two businesses were recognized as “Friends of Children” at the 20th annual Community for Kids breakfast Thursday at the Civic Center.

Honorees included Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick, Lima Express General Manager Lewis Shine and Family of Faith Church Pastor Jim Loescher. The recognized companies included SpartanNash and Lima Memorial Health System.

Winners of the Partnership for Violence Free Families' Pinwheels awards included retiring Lima Police Department officer Dave Vastano and youth basketball coach Greg “Radar” Williamson.

Michael Clair, a former Allen County foster child at Allen Acres, spoke at the event. Lima Mayor David Berger declared Thursday “Michael Clair Day” in Lima. The breakfast helps draw attention to April, which is Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month.
