PANDORA — Edna “Mac” (McDougal) Herr, of Pandora, formerly of Lima, will celebrate her 90th birthday Jan. 28, 2014. A birthday celebration dinner with family will be held in her honor. Birthday greetings may be sent to her c/o Hilty Memorial Home, 304 Hilty Drive, Pandora, OH 45877. Herr greatly enjoys receiving visits from friends and family.
She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Marion, to Aldeen and Ethel (Buckland) McDougal. She is a 1945 graduate of St. Rita’s School of Nursing, and went on to work 37 years at St. Rita’s in the labor and delivery department. A highlight of her career was helping deliver quadruplets. She was also co-owner of Herr’s Furniture Mart, along with her husband, Sidney B. Herr, whom she married in 1965 and who passed away in 1984. She was also formerly married to Irvin Metcalf.
Herr has four children, Robert “Bob” (Cindy) Metcalf, of Largo, FL; Susan Hersey, of Paulding; Richard “Dick” (Marsha) Metcalf, of Belle Center; and Cheryl (Paul) Burkholder, of Pandora. One son-in-law, Drew Hersey, is deceased.
Herr is a long-time member of Lima Baptist Temple, founded the Widow’s Support Group and participated many years in Ladies Missionary Fellowship work days where she made numerous wordless gospel books. She was involved in Gideon’s Auxiliary and volunteered at the Red Cross blood drives.
Herr enjoyed organizing Bank One group travel trips. She and her husband, Sidney, enjoyed travelling, especially to see gospel singing groups including the Gaithers. An avid crossword puzzler, she still enjoys playing Tri-bond and other card games. She currently participates in playing Bingo and all other available activities at the Hilty Memorial Home.
