WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Ethel Guyer Holtzapple, of Winston-Salem, NC, celebrated her 100th birthday Jan. 9, 2014. A dinner party was held on Jan. 11th, for friends and family in Winston-Salem.
She was born Jan. 9, 1914, in Rockingham county, VA to Nina and Oscar Guyer. In June of 1933 in Elida, she married Branson Holtzapple and he died in 1990.
Holtzapple has one daughter, Maryann Holtzapple, of Winston-Salem, NC. One son, John David Holtzapple, is deceased.
Ethel and her husband owned and operated Holtzapple’s Inc., a poultry business, in Elida. They retired in 1978.
She is a member of Market Street Presbyterian Church, Eastern Stars, Elida Garden Club and Lima Hospital Auxiliary from 1963 to 1986.
Holtzapple played piano from age four and played weekly at numerous nursing homes from 1963 to 2012. She still plays at home.
