OTTAWA — An eminent domain lawsuit has been filed to purchase properties needed for the construction of a diversion channel, it was reported this week during a meeting of the Blanchard River Flood Mitigation Coalition.
The steering committee reported the court must decide where there is “a public need” for the project and, if so, what a fair price would be. Eight of 10 property owners have agreed to flood mitigation property purchases.
Ottawa has used grant money to purchase more than 50 structures since the 2007 flood. The committee is looking for more funding for potential future purchases.
The committee also was informed about areas of high water signage problems near the Road I-9 Bridge. Flashers have not been working properly and need replaced.
