Lima Senior student earns fraternity scholarship
LIMA — Lima Senior High School senior Darius Collins is this year’s Lima winner of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship. He was recognized at a banquet in Troy.
The scholarship is awarded to an African-American male with the highest academic standing at the school.
Collins is the son of Darnell and Cathy Collins. He plays football and baseball and is on the Spartan bowling team. He is very active at Lima Senior, including with the school’s DECA program and several music groups.
Collins is headed to Wayne State University next year to study engineering.
Lima Christian Academy students assist seniors in community
LIMA — Elementary school pupils from Lima Christian Academy took advantage of the beautiful weather and assisted one of the older residents in the Elida area with leaf-raking and bagging.

ELIDA — The elementary school pupils at Elida are preparing for Christmas performances.
At 7 p.m. Dec. 13, “Sounds of the Season,” at Elida High School auditorium, shows the fourth-grade girls choir with a holiday collection of music.
Allen County high school seniors receive award
LIMA — Nine high-achieving Allen County high school seniors received the Honda-OSU Math Medal Award from a partnership between Honda and The Ohio State University. The award recognizes the top senior mathematics student in 221 high schools in southwest and central Ohio.
Math medal winners from Allen County were: Rishika Avvari, Shawnee; Lexus Baker, Perry; Paul Blasiman, Bath; Benjamin Curth, Jefferson; Shannon Daley, Lima Central Catholic; Gage Goecke, Spencerville; Connor Hesseling, Delphos St. John’s; Ben Leis, Allen East; and Brice Metzger, Bluffton.

Lima Christian Academy students place in competition
LIMA — Four students of the Lima Christian Academy took first place in their respective grade leves in the Americanism and Government Test sponsored by the American Legion and given to high school students across the nation. This test deals with topics as varied as current events, U.S. Constitution awareness, as well as state and national politics. These students’ tests now go forward with the next round of competition.
Students who took first place include:
Sharah Pettigrew, first place, 12th grade girl; Kayla Stump, first place; 11th grade girl; Elisabeth Fickel, first place: 10th grade girl; Joshua Grimm, first place: 10th grade boy.
Crestview Elementary hosts VIP Day
CONVOY — Crestview kindergartners, first-graders and second-graders held their annual Grandparets’/VIP Visitation Day. Students were able to invite one important person to participate in a performance, which included music and poems, all performed by the students.
Elida High School holds financial aid night
ELIDA — Elida High School will hold a financial aid night at 7 p.m., Dec. 7 in the high school commons.
A financial aid representative from a local college will be on hand to discuss the filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and other financial aid information. Parents and senior students who are planning to attend college are encouraged to attend.

Imagination Station programs coming to Lima City Schools
LIMA — Imagination Station will be bringing programs into several Lima City School District buildings. The programs will be for fifth-graders and will include a trip to Imagination Station later in the school year.
Friday: North Middle School. There will be hour-long engineering workshop programs beginning at 7:45 a.m.; 9 a.m.; 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

ELIDA — Elida High School has scheduled parent/teacher conferences from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Parents are to call the high school office at 419-331-4115 to schedule appointments with their students teachers.
Lima Elks Lodge 54 announces hoop shoot competition
LIMA — The 45th Annual Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at Bradfield Center, 550 S. Collett Street, Lima. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is a national free throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages eight through 13. Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group (8-9; 10-11; and 12-13) with the best score advances through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.
Local winners will compete against other contestants in the District Hoop Shoot event at The University of Findlay, in Findlay. The competition will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Croy Gymnasium at The University of Findlay.
