Alcohol use suspected in crash that killed Michigan man

CAIRO — A Michigan man is dead following a one-vehicle crash on state Route 115 near State Road early Thursday that may have involved alcohol.

Brenden Wale, 18, of St. Louis, Michigan, a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened at 5:20 a.m. when Zackery Brown, 21, of Waterford, Michigan, was driving north on state Route 115. He drove off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle, the patrol reported.

Brown was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, the patrol reported.

State Route 115 remained closed for two hours to complete the investigation at the scene. Alcohol and speed are suspected as contributing factors in the crash. The case will be reviewed by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
