LIMA — Superior Credit Union announced Thursday that its subsidiary, Superior Financial Solutions LLC, has acquired Yocum Realty, a real estate brokerage firm in Lima.

The acquisition adds to Superior’s current home and business-related offerings of mortgage origination, title services, and property and casualty insurance, a press release stated.

“Yocum Realty has a strong presence and great reputation in West Central Ohio,” stated Phil Buell, president and CEO of Superior Credit Union. “We believe this will be a true benefit to our current and new members as we provide them convenient access to real estate brokerage services.”

Kurt Neeper, senior vice president of Superior Financial Solutions, said merging the companies will create a “convenience factor” for its members.

“A lot of people don’t have the time they used to, so consumers are really looking for that one-stop shop atmosphere,” Neeper said. “Now people can come in here and deal with just one company for all their mortgage and real estate needs.

“It’ll really simplify the process and make it quicker.”

Along with the convenience factor, Neeper said the merger could save clients money.

“Since you’re bundling services, we might be able to save people some dollars on their mortgage,” he said. “It’s money we can return to the local community.”

Tim Stanford, owner of Yocum Realty, said the partnership will “provide even more value to buyers and sellers.”

“They are a world class organization, so we are thrilled to become a part of the Superior team,” Stanford said. “It will give our agents more business, it will save people money, it will provide more services for their members and it will change the way real estate is practiced in the area.”

Stanford and Neeper said Yocum Realty will continue to operate under the same name, but at some point it will be re-branded.

“We’ll continue to operate as Yocum for right now, but we will be bringing them into the Superior brand at some point in the future,” he said. “People will see some changes in the new year.”

Stanford will continue in his current role and has been named vice president of real estate services for Superior Financial Solutions. The agency will also maintain its office at 421 S. Cable Road in Lima.

Yocum Realty was founded in 1961 by R.L. Yocum. Stanford has owned the firm since 2002, when he purchased it from his father-in-law, Gene Nameche. Today, the Yocum has 26 agents serving West Central Ohio.

Superior Credit Union, headquartered in Lima, is a full-service, member-owned financial cooperative that serves 17 northwest Ohio counties.
