WAPAKONETA — U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan is touting a consistent message that GOP voters need to rally behind Donald Trump in an effort to prevent Hillary Clinton from getting in the White House.
Jordan was guest speaker Monday at the Wapakoneta Rotary meeting held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge, and he said people may be making their decision more complicated than it needs to be.
“I admit he [Trump] was not the guy I was supporting in the primary,” Jordan said. “He is who I am supporting now. You have to look at this from two ways. It isn’t just about voting for one person. We have to look at what he offers in comparison.”
Jordan said the Benghazi, Libya, attack alone should give people what they need to know before voting.
“I think Libya alone disqualifies Clinton as commander in chief,” Jordan said. “If we look at what Trump is offering, he is offering a qualified set of 11 Supreme Court nominees, he has brought on Mike Pence, and he is serious about addressing our borders.”
Jordan said it was no accident that Trump brought out millions of new voters, and he felt that GOP supporters would rally together in the end.
“It is a long way to Nov. 8,” Jordan said. “I think the Republicans will unite. We can still turn this thing around.”
Jordan again focused on Americans being concerned with government, pointing out that 60 percent of adults feel they had it better than their parents but their children will be worse off, 70 percent think America is in decline and 80 percent feel the system is rigged against them. He said recent events have only proved the public’s feelings correct. He said the politically connected are being given a second set of rules to go by. He pointed out the fact that Clinton was not indicted and lack of action against IRS Commissioner John Koskinen as evidence to support their feelings.
“You know why 80 percent think that is,” Jordan asked. “It’s because it is.”
He also discussed uncontrolled spending, burdensome U.S. tax codes and the Affordable Health Care Act as other big contributors to problems. He said a return to the understanding of basic freedoms is what is needed.
“We need to get back to the basics of freedom,” Jordan said. There is a lack of respect for the Constitution and an encroachment on our liberties. Its bad, but America is still the best thing going.”
