LIMA — Right at Home, an international provider of in-home companion and personal care for senior citizens, celebrated the grand opening of its first Lima office on Thursday.
Located at 128 W. High St., the senior care center is owned by franchisee Sandra Bullock, a Lima resident with 11 years experience as a nurse. During her time in the health care field, Bullock said she she saw the challenges senior citizens face on a daily basis and how important it is for them to remain in their own home.
“I was inspired by my experience with in-home health care, as this service will continue to be important as Lima’s baby boomer population continues to age,” Bullock said. “It’s important to both seniors and their families for seniors to be able to age gracefully in the comfort of their homes. I’m excited to bring this much-needed service to Lima and look forward to working closely with the local community.”
To provide in-home senior care services, Bullock has employed more than eight caregivers. She said each caregiver is screened, trained and insured prior to entering a client’s home.
The caregivers will provide companionship care, which includes everything from household chores and transportation services to playing games and reading aloud to clients. They will also provide personal care, which includes bathing, grooming and feeding the client, among other services. Bullock said the type of care each client receives will depend on individual needs.
“We provide services from as little as one hour per day to 24 hours a day,” she said. “We also provide services in special situations, like if a family wants to go on vacation for a week and they need someone to look after their loved one while they’re gone.
“In any unique situation, you can give us a call, and we’d be glad to provide as little or as much care as you need.”
Bullock said the services Right at Home provides are especially helpful for seniors whose families are living out of town, and for children who are trying to take care of their parents.
“On average, one in three caregivers still have children of their own, so it’s a juggling act for them to try to take care of their children and their parents,” she said. “It can be an exhausting and overwhelming experience, so that’s where we come in.”
Right at Home is also a certified provider of DementiaLive, an immersive experience that shows participants what it’s like to live with dementia. During the program, participants experience sensory loss and cognitive impairment and then discuss what it felt like.
