LIMA — Rally in the Square kicks off tonight with Lima’s Indoorfins. Music starts at 6:30 and ends at 9:30 p.m. every Friday during the summer outside ArtSpace/Lima in downtown Lima. There is a $2 gate fee charged every Friday, with proceeds going to ArtSpace/Lima.
Changes are in store for the rally, as managers are adding food trucks to the event.
“We’re trying to entice a whole new crowd. We have our core rally goers that are faithfully here every Friday, but we’re trying to attract some new people and encourage people to come downtown and spend the evening; have dinner, enjoy the music, make a night of it,” said Kay VanMeter, associate manager of ArtSpace/Lima. “Our goal is to have three to four trucks every single Friday.”
Rally in the Square has been entertaining folks for a while.
“We’re close to 30 years,” said VanMeter.
The event organizers start early in booking bands for the summer series.
“The guy that books the bands is probably already talking to people about next year. Mike Baker, I can’t say enough about him. He’s on our board and he’s the one responsible for lining up the bands, and he does a phenomenal job. This year he had it buttoned down. I think we had every single date booked except for one at the beginning of March,” said VanMeter.
