BEAVERDAM — The Beaverdam Veterans Committee has been working for over two and one half years on a Veterans Memorial for Beaverdam, a village of 300-plus citizens in Allen County. It is to honor all United States Veterans, past and present.
The newly installed seven foot tall black granite memorial is located in front of our new town hall on Main Street.
It has been a long process for our committee, attending council meetings, getting bids and contracts, and making several trips to other veteran memorials for ideas. We have had several fund raisers including selling chicken dinners, a rifle raffle, Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA) snack stop in Beaverdam, a cash raffle, and selling brick pavers around the monument to honor veterans.
There will be a dedication at 11 a.m. Nov. 12. Speakers at the ceremony will include Robert “Bob” Klostermeier, a Navy Veteran and past Department of Ohio American Legion Commander; Dan Kirkpatrick, US Air Force retired and current Mayor of Fairborn, Ohio; and Roberta Beemer, Mayor of Beaverdam. The American Legion in Bluffton will be helping with the ceremonies, as will the Bluffton Boy Scouts and the Beaverdam 4-H Bunch. World War II, Korea, and all other veterans are to be honored.
A lunch will follow the dedication.
