LIMA — Lima Area Concerts in the Park 50th Anniversary Bash takes place Saturday and Sunday at Faurot Park. They are offering two days of free concerts for the area to enjoy as well as bringing in events for kids.
The Council for the Arts of Greater Lima has been offering free concerts in the park for 48 years, although the Concerts in the Park series has been ongoing for 50 years.
“It started before the Arts Council was created. They actually started two years before the council took it over,” said Bart Mills, event spokesman.
The concerts are free at Faurot Park on Sunday nights. With the anniversary celebration, kids activities will be featured before the concerts start on Saturday.
“WBGU is coming down to put together a kids extravaganza with inflatables and face painting. That happens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday,” said Mills. “At 2 p.m. the adults take over with live music, craft beer and food trucks. This is an extended version of our concerts in the park with amenities.”
Saturday afternoon features five bands with a mixture of music genres.
“We have regular rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, reggae and then the amazing great soul act at the end of the evening backed by Urban Jazz. It is going to be phenomenal,” said Mills.
Sunday night brings the Lima Area Concert Band to Faurot Park.
“Sunday night, the traditional end of year music with Lima Area Concert Band,” said Mills. “That concert starts at 7 p.m. on Sunday.”
