ST. MARYS — Waynestock 2016 is Saturday at Skip Baughman Stadium, 101 W. South St.
“Basically we started in 2011 as a fundraiser for (Wayne Street United Methodist Church). We had a new sanctuary and new ideas to raise money for the church. The idea of a Christian concert came up. After the first year, the idea of raising money for the church wasn’t what we should be doing so we decided to make it missionary. Second year, missionary. Then we made it free and an outreach,” said Keith Jacobs, coordinator.
This free concert features eight bands and plays rain or shine.
“As long as there is no lightning, we will continue to play music. Bring your umbrella or ponchos because we will be playing,” said Jacobs.
Jacobs encourages people to come out and to bring their family, children and friends.
“This is a family friendly atmosphere. For the first time this year, we are having a Kids Zone with crafts and games,” said Jacobs.
There is no charge for Kids Zone exhibits.
“Concession stands are available all day with the standard concession food and snacks. People can bring their coolers with their own snacks and drinks. We just ask no alcohol and no glass,” said Jacobs.
Jacobs urges people to stay until the end of the concert, as some of the bands will be hanging around for meet and greets, although Tenth Avenue North cannot, as they have a prior engagement to get to.
“We hope to continue to grow and keep people excited and wanting to come back next year. Bring friends and family and have a good time,” said Jacobs. “Just bring a lawn chair or a blanket and come out to hear some great Christian bands.”
