LIMA — William C. Oard Jr. celebrated his 90th birthday with a family gathering Sept. 16 at his home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Lima, to William C. Sr. and Augusta Margaret Webb Oard. In 1959, he married Donnabelle Jones Golden, who died in May 2010.
He has three children and three stepchildren, Lewis Edward “Ed” Golden, of London, Ohio, Susan Diane Golden Bruno, of Phoenix, Arizona, David Lee Golden, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, William Michael “Mike” Oard, of Lima, Patrick Clinton Oard, of Cairo, Ohio, and Brian Alan Oard, of Lima. He has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is a U. S. Navy combat veteran of World War II and Korea. He is retired from Superior Coach and Bath schools. In the 1970s, he served as president of UAW local 711 and was a member of the board of Marimor School. Since his retirement, he has attended several national reunions of the crew of the USS McCalla, on which he served in World War II. He enjoys gardening, collecting vintage Toby mugs and working around the house.
