USDA to increase honeybee habitat

June 5, 2014

COLUMBUS - The Natural Resources Conservation Service, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has created the Honeybee Pollinator Environmental Quality Incentives program to help landowners create and pay for honeybee friendly habitats.

Agricultural producers with cropland, pastureland, forestland and farmsteads in 24 Ohio counties, including Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer and Van Wert counties, can apply for this program, which helps create flowering habitats by planting borders along streams or around fields, planting flowering trees or mixing flowering plants into pastures.

Visit to find a local NRCS office where program applications are available. All applications must be filed by July 18.
